nicknamed the “QUEEN CITY OF THE SOUTH”. Cebu City is considered the second city of the Philippines. we arrived in Cebu last Saturday for a one week vacation in my husband’s birthplace.
i was looking forward to enjoying the beaches of Cebu but, unfortunately, it is not listed in our itinerary. the trip this time, apart from visiting with my husband’s family, is for them to discuss the possibility of our moving here early next year, maybe for good, hence my blog title,, “almost there”… here are some of the fantastic photos of beaches from Asialight Travel and Tours, Inc.
the weather at this time is humid still, although not as bad YET as in Metro Manila where i hailed from (and is the Philippine capital city), where it is more confined and polluted and overloaded with vehicles.. although Cebu is slowly following Manila’s footsteps, it still is a bit better.
since it is the second city of the Philippines, most of what Manila has, one can also find in Cebu.. Shopping Malls, traffic, bustling business district, its own Capitol Building.
Cebuanos are more hospitable, i noticed, than in the metropolis because there is still a tinge of “ruralness” with the folks here. But in terms of cityhood, Cebu is already in full bloom. considering that Manila is the capital city, i feel Cebu’s foreign visitors are more visible than in Manila, europeans, americans or other asians (Koreans mainly) are just about anywhere. Crime rate in Cebu is also much lower than in Manila.
another place i hoped to visit but also will not be able to, because they only open to public during Saturdays, and we’ll be flying back to Manila by then is the youtube sensation “Dancing Inmates” of the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center, maybe this is why there crime rate is low, the would-be criminals with two left feet wouldn’t want joining this group as well he he.. here is their video of Michael Jackson’s “This is it” dance routine, by non other than Travis Payne, MJ’s official choreographer.
if ever my husband finally decides to move here, i would gladly welcome the idea of doing so. it is not yet too late for me to explore Cebu’s hidden wonders and it is going to be another blessing for me. i hope to see more of the Queen City.. in addition, Cebu City has also been hosting many run events, just like Manila, i am really happy about it.
