the show’s not yet over!!
the other night, i bade farewell to my runner friends at the oval. it was not a good-bye-forever thing, it was more of the see-you-again-soon kind of farewell…
i thank God for friends that come my way, be it friends at work, at leisure, friends during hardships, during good times and not-so-good times. the people i meet, much like the story about the FIVE PEOPLE YOU MEET IN HEAVEN kind of people, are to me sent by God for big or small reasons.
my dear ally and running mentor, again, Allyn, is just one of them. but ours has lengthier encounter which developed into a good friendship than the many others i meet in my ordinary everyday life. i thank God for her endlessly, since it was Allyn who led me into running, thus, leading one thing to another, like being more conscious about my health, quitting smoking, etc. so, God really knows who He sends for me.
another person is Lai, my friend from childhood. we never really got together as bosom-buddy kind of friends. she was just a neighbor in my teen years. we would say hi hello to each other then.. perhaps God knew (as he knows everything) that we would meet at the oval, would run together and know each other a little deeper, though there was not enough time to do that as we now have our own families, own commitments, and that, i am leaving soon, but i will always remember Lai in my prayers, i pray that she will have the desires of her heart, and hoping one day we will run together again.
lastly, a new friend i met out of the blues… ROBIN, or BENSON some would call him, i recognized him as the one seriously running at the oval when i joined a race event at the FORT, took his photos anonymously, had them printed and when i had the chance to approach him at the oval again, introduced myself and handed him the photos, to his surprise!! from then on, he has been mentoring me, inspiring and teaching me how to build up my endurance.. mind you, at his “age” hehe, he still does full marathon and wins them!! so proud and happy i met you, ROBIN!
oops, and before i forget,, there’s MARLON, hehe, my favorite among them.. he IS a headliner as his photo landed on the local broadsheet The Philippine Star when he joined the 2nd QCIM. good for you, friend!!
so, i say there are big and small reasons why i met them, only God knows what. but for now, i thank God for my newfound friendships.. though of course, i still keep the old, those are gold, these are silver, but just the same, i treasure them all, and i thank God for them…
“Two are better than one,
because they have a good return for their labor:
If either of them falls down,
one can help the other up.
But pity anyone who falls
and has no one to help them up.
Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm.
But how can one keep warm alone?
Though one may be overpowered,
two can defend themselves.
A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”
